EVENT WILL TRANSFORM DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH INTO A HUB OF RECOVERY, HOPE, AND SUPPORT

Together, we are saving lives; we are supporting recovery, and we are building a community where no one has to face any of this alone.”

PITTSBURGH, PA, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — County Executive Sara Innamorato will join more than 3,000 people and representatives from over 90 community organizations in Downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday, September 12, for the 11th Annual Pittsburgh Recovery Walk, the region’s largest public celebration of recovery from addiction.

The free, family-friendly event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.at 1201 Waterfront Place, in the parking lot across from the Heinz History Center.

At a time when addiction is often covered through stories of crisis and loss, the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk offers a powerful and highly visible counter-narrative: recovery is happening every day, in every neighborhood, and people do not have to face addiction alone.

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m., when the Resource Fair, food trucks, and family activities open. The Pittsburgh Recovery Awards ceremony, featured speakers, and personal recovery stories will begin at 10:00 a.m. The mile-long walk through Downtown Pittsburgh will kick off at 12:00 p.m.

“Together, we are saving lives; we are supporting recovery,” said County Executive Innamorato, “and we are building a community where no one has to face any of this alone.”

“The walk itself is only one part of the story,” said Perry Scheck, Event Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk. “The bigger story is thousands of people coming together with more than 90 organizations to show that recovery is real, support is available, and every pathway to recovery deserves to be respected. This is what hope looks like when an entire community makes it visible.”

The Resource Fair will give attendees an opportunity to speak directly with more than 90 organizations offering recovery support, treatment, healthcare, harm-reduction services, family support, peer services, mental-health resources, and other assistance. It will be the largest Recovery Walk resource fair to date.

The event will also include the annual Pittsburgh Recovery Awards, honoring individuals whose advocacy, caregiving, and work to expand recovery pathways have made an exceptional impact in the region.

In addition to County Executive Innamorato, scheduled featured guests include Pennsylvania Secretary of Drug and Alcohol Programs Dr. Latika Davis-Jones; Pittsburgh City Councilperson Bob Charland; David Loveland, Ph.D. of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services; and longtime Pittsburgh Recovery Walk supporter and retired Pittsburgh City Councilperson Bruce Kraus. Personal stories of recovery will be shared by Korrina Booker, Barbara Norton and Kevin Kelley. Angela Elliston will serve as emcee.

Musical guests scheduled to participate include DJ Kelli Burns, the Munhall Community Band, and the Eagleburger Band.

The event will be livestreamed at pghrecoverywalk.org to watch parties at numerous treatment centers throughout the region and also for people who are unable to attend in person.

“The Pittsburgh Recovery Walk brings together people in recovery, families, friends, service providers, healthcare professionals, and community members who simply want to show their support,” said Jesse Scheck, Pittsburgh Recovery Walk Executive Committee Chairperson. “Someone may come to celebrate a milestone, remember a loved one, find help for a family member, or learn how to support recovery in their workplace or neighborhood. Everyone has a place here.”

Advance registration is encouraged but not required. All event activities are free. Children, families, and friendly dogs are welcome.
The 2026 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk is made possible through the generous support of presenting sponsors UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and UPMC Community Care, along with regional sponsors, community partners, and volunteers.
