Every company has a storyteller. The person who can already picture a distinctive launch video, a vivid product reveal, or a powerful title sequence, fully formed in their head. For years, they’ve had no way to make it real themselves. Video and motion design lived inside professional tools that take years to master, or behind a queue of specialists, or lately, inside a prompt box that promises to bottle taste inside an AI model.
Today, Osmo, the storytelling studio with a software factory, is making its end-to-end video product generally available to storytellers and GTM teams at high-growth companies. The company was founded by a team with backgrounds from A24, NBC, and Saturday Night Live. Osmo is also announcing a $5 million seed round led by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Basis Set Ventures, MVP Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Scott Belsky, and others.
Today’s generative AI video models are diffusion-based systems that give you a single fixed output. Current models spray out generic, off-brand media at volume. But “more slop, faster” is not what enterprise brands need.
Osmo generates animations as editable code rather than fixed AI output. It combines the accessibility of Canva with the power of Adobe, giving storytellers complete authorship over the final result. So instead of handing users a finished video they can’t change, Osmo enables them to build each piece in an editable, programmable way—more like a website than a traditional video. Users can bring together motion, visuals, footage, and other mixed media into a complete story, while keeping the text, colors, timing, movement, and brand rules editable through natural language from the start.
The company created 50+ films in its first seven months, then turned what it learned into software that lets marketing and GTM leaders create complete videos for their storytelling needs. Leaders at Webflow, Resend, Rho, and Gumloop already rely on Osmo to produce videos with more creative control.
With Osmo:
- The storyteller stays the author. Osmo is built for leaders who want to execute with a tool, not hand the thinking over to one. Assets are fully customizable and editable throughout the creative process: users fine-tune the timeline, layers, and vectors, and fully own the result. It preserves creative craft instead of replacing it.
- The video stays on brand. Because every asset is built from explicit code, brand rules live at the source instead of getting corrected after the fact. Typography, exact colors, and motion behavior are consistent across everything teams make.
- The software moves at the speed of your ideas. Osmo runs 32.7x faster than After Effects, a 97% reduction in production time. People with ideas and a story, who never had time to master the technical craft, can finally turn motion, visuals, footage, and other mixed media into a complete story.
“Taste shouldn’t be owned by a committee of ‘tastemakers’ and locked inside a model. It should be expressed freely by every creator,” said Chris He, CEO and co-founder of Osmo. “Every person’s individual taste is irreducibly personal, and the moment you try to distill it into a dataset, you’ve already lost it.”
“We’re not trying to make models more tasteful. We’re trying to give people the most expressive tool they’ve ever had. Because at the end of the day, what makes something worth watching is a real point of view, not a committee of averages,” said Will Hoppin, CTO and co-founder of Osmo.
To get started, marketing and GTM leaders can import a Figma file, paste in frontend code, upload an image, drop in a reference video or YouTube link to learn its motion, or begin from a blank canvas. Osmo reads these assets and builds the animation, creating custom controls and sliders for every element so users can fine-tune every component. From there, users can collaborate, refine, and ship a finished video to their heart’s content without ever routing through a specialist.
“We’ve been frustrated with so many AI video tools because everything out there is always so limiting. The big unlock with Osmo is that it assumes everything can be written in code. AI gets the animation to about 90%, and you finish the last 10%,” said Curtis Judd, Director of Education Video at Webflow.
