Researchers from Augusta University and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to present findings on structural variant detection in hematologic malignancies with EGM

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Nabsys 2.0, LLC (“Nabsys”) today announced that researchers from Augusta University and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will present research on Electronic Genome Mapping (EGM) for structural variant detection in hematologic malignancies at the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) 2026 Annual Meeting, November 10–14 in Seattle, Washington.

Characterizing hematologic malignancies often requires multiple technologies, including karyotyping, FISH, chromosomal microarray and sequencing. EGM offers a complementary, high-resolution, genome-wide approach to analyzing structural and copy number variants in one assay using the Nabsys OhmX™ Platform.

At the Innovation Spotlight Session (stage 1) on Friday, November 13, from 9:30–10:00 a.m. PT, Ravindra Kolhe, M.D., Ph.D., FCAP, Professor and Chair of Pathology at Augusta University, and Rashmi Kanagal-Shamanna, M.D., Professor of Hematopathology and Molecular Diagnostics at UT MD Anderson will present “Electronic Genome Mapping for Structural Variant Detection: Implications for Advancing Clinical Research in Heme Malignancies.”

“Structural variants are central to disease classification and risk assessment across many hematologic malignancies, yet labs still rely on a combination of karyotyping, FISH, and other molecular methods to identify them,” said Dr. Kolhe. “In our initial study, Electronic Genome Mapping detected every abnormality identified by standard cytogenetic testing and provided additional molecular insights in complex cases. I look forward to sharing these findings with the AMP community and discussing how EGM could help streamline cytogenomic analysis in clinical research.”

Dr. Kanagal-Shamanna said, “Conventional cytogenetics depends on dividing bone marrow aspirates through invasive procedures and can be often hemodilute, and sometimes of insufficient volume to perform assays. Our preliminary data suggests that with EGM, we can detect translocations, deletions and complex rearrangements directly from peripheral blood, with no culture needed and at a resolution far beyond karyotyping. I am thrilled with the possibilities that this EGM research opens up for the hematopathology community”.

“EGM is advancing rapidly, and collaboration with the hematopathology community is essential to its success,” said Barrett Bready, M.D., founder and CEO of Nabsys. “It’s exciting to see leading experts like Drs. Kolhe and Kanagal-Shamanna, who have championed genome mapping, continuing to advance the field and share their findings at AMP. Their work is critical to building the evidence, confidence, and clinical research understanding needed for broader adoption of EGM.”

At Booth #937, Nabsys will showcase the OhmX Platform and demonstrate Nabsys Navigator™, its cloud-based platform for EGM analysis and visualization. Available pipelines include SV-Discover™ for genome-wide structural variant analysis and SV-Verify™ for confirmation of structural variants identified by other technologies. Attendees can also preview the forthcoming hematologic malignancy analysis software and provide feedback on data presentation, navigation, access to information, and overall interface design to help guide its continued development.

The OhmX Platform is for Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
