Eastern Technologies, Inc. (ETI), a Sylmar company and custom formulator of industrial water treatment chemistries, today announced the launch of its COOLGARD Non-Phosphorus product line. The line gives ETI’s partners a phosphorus-free option for controlling scale and corrosion in industrial cooling and process water systems.
“The hard part was never taking the phosphorus out. It was holding scale and corrosion control once it was gone. We tested the 14500 series against the phosphorus programs our partners already run and kept at it until the numbers held. Now, we have a series of products that provide an environmental benefit without sacrificing performance,” said Jim Sanford, Sr. Product Line Manager at Eastern Technologies, Inc.
Phosphorus has been a workhorse of industrial water treatment for decades. Tightening discharge limits, disrupted supply chains, and customer sustainability commitments are pushing facilities to reduce or eliminate it. Discharge permits are written on total phosphorus, and phosphonates count toward that number, so a program built on phosphonate chemistry can put a site over its limit even where no orthophosphate is being fed. Water treatment professionals are increasingly being asked to move away from the P-based chemistries the industry has long relied on, without giving up the equipment protection or operational performance those programs provide.
Four formulations, validated on results
COOLGARD launches with four formulations built on proven polymer chemistry. COOLGARD 14505 and 14510 balance performance and cost efficiency, an entry point for programs transitioning away from phosphorus under standard operating conditions. COOLGARD 14515 and 14520 add performance margin through zinc for more demanding systems, where corrosion inhibition needs are higher or water quality is more challenging. COOLGARD 14510 and 14520 incorporate a tagged polymer for enhanced monitoring on critical systems.
ETI developed all four formulations through disciplined performance evaluation and cost-in-use analysis, so a water treater can recommend the line on validated results rather than positioning or relationship alone. The COOLGARD line complements ETI’s existing phosphorus-based cooling water programs, giving partners the flexibility to match chemistry to each customer’s regulatory, sustainability, and performance requirements.
Built inside Sylmar, for the field
COOLGARD reflects a broader Sylmar strategy: innovation through technology, trust through relationships. Chemistry developed once inside Sylmar reaches the field through the partners and teams that put it to work. ETI develops chemistry proven in real operating conditions for the water treatment service companies, OEMs, and distributors it serves. It is one more capability Sylmar is building behind its water businesses for the long term.
“Water treaters are being asked to protect their customers’ equipment and cut total phosphorus at the same time, while managing cost through supply chains they cannot rely on. For years those goals worked against each other. Building this chemistry inside Sylmar means we solve it once and put it in the hands of the people who run these systems every day,” said Kevin Donaldson, Chief Operating Officer of Sylmar Water Treatment.
Availability
The COOLGARD product line is available through ETI’s network of distributor partners. Water treatment service companies and OEMs interested in the line can contact ETI at go2eti.com.
